If there is one advantage to being an outdoorsman in Southern California its having access to world class game fish. Id say another advantage is the surf. Mitch is a guy who takes advantage of it all quite regularly.
I imagine he is living the life that those in landlocked states might only dream about. Uniquely, Mitch is also an upland game guy. Bird hunting was something he grew up with and like many hunters, it was a pastime passed down through family.
Dove, Quail or Pheasant, Mitch will kill it and then cook and eat it. Mitch points out that these birds were not planted; however, he does have access to a private land spot which allows him to limit out on Dove rather quickly. Regardless, many of his birds are downed on public land.
Living close to the ocean, its only natural that Mitch spends a great deal of his time fishing. And why wouldn’t you if you have access to game fish like Tuna and Yellow Tail. Rock fish are more than palatable and quite easily caught not far off shore.
There are a lot of people living in Southern California. Most aren’t aware of the possibilities of local wild meat available to them. Even fewer are accustom to the knowledge of how to harvest these meats themselves. The process of learning this becomes a lifestyle…hunt, surf, fish….repeat.
